SCHIMA Student Member Update

Dear SCHIMA Student Members,

I want to thank you for participating in our student survey this year. I hope the information below addresses the major concerns you expressed.

Many of you expressed interest in job opportunities. Networking always helps with this. A great way to network is to volunteer for SCHIMA, your state association. Right now, we are recruiting volunteers for our Student Advisory Council.  Making new contacts is a great way to get your foot in the door.  Look through the job boards on AHIMA and SCHIMA for the job you want. Take a shot, you have nothing to lose!

“Like us” on Facebook” The easiest way to find our official page is to go to the SCHIMA web-site at and click on the Facebook icon in the top right-hand corner of the red banner.
The AHIMA website is also a great resource for student-centered webinars:

You do not need to be a member of AHIMA to access most of these.

We are working to recruit mentors in South Carolina. Until that program is available AHIMA has a program to match students with mentors. Follow the link below to complete a form requesting a mentor match:

While you are on Engage, look at our South Carolina Engage community. It is a good place to network virtually. We have just launched our Facebook page as well. It is under South Carolina Health Information Management Association. Following this page will keep you up to date on all of our activities.

Finally, I am happy to announce we will have a student breakout session at our 2020 SCHIMA Annual Meeting in Greenville.
I hope to meet some of you at one of our regional meetings.
