SCHIMA ICD-10 Training Program: 2011 – 2013
SCHIMA started early in preparing South Carolina’s HIM professionals in ICD-10 readiness through a unique, custom-designed, nationally-recognized ICD-10 training program developed by our Natalie Sartori, M.Ed, RHIA, SCHIMA ICD-10 and State Coding Roundtable Coordinator.
In September 2011, we partnered with Elsevier to offer affordable access to two (2) online pre-education programs through their learning management system (ending December 2012):
Anatomy and Pathophysiology for Healthcare Professionals (24.0 CEUs)
EduCode Introduction to ICD-10 (27.0 CEUs)
In January 2012, we embarked on a 9-course, 20-month, 66 CEU ICD-10-CM and PCS training program offered via a combination of both centrally-located and regionally-repeating courses through October 2013 by Natalie and her team of volunteer trainers (Laura Nardone, Marcy Blitch and Victoria Parrish). The intensive, hands-on nature of the program was well received by the hundreds of attendees who were able to participate with us, and we are immensely grateful for the time, effort and energy the training team put into develpment and delivery of the program.
Because we are a volunteer organization, made successful by the volunteers who offer their time and skill to make our educational programs so successful (while working full-time jobs in industry), we are NOT able to offer the entire 20 month program again. We were able to offer a 3.5 day ICD-10-CM/PCS boot camp version of the program during the 2014 Annual Convention & Exhibit, and will continue to offer ICD-10 related continuing education through regional meetings, State Coding Roundtable meetings and webinars, and the Annual Convention.
If you have specific ICD-10 education needs, or would like to request a speaker for an ICD-10 topic, please contact the SCHIMA Central Office for more information.
