Health Information Coordinator

The Health Information Coordinator will serve in a full time position with responsibility for maintaining the health records of all residents and patients in a manner that is consistent with regulatory requirements and campus policies. Oversees Health Information Assistants and Medical Office Assistant.
Responsible for creating and establishing an adequate, effective chart audit system, including auditing all current resident and patient records as per specialty audit procedure, and on a monthly basis, notifying responsible persons of noted deficiencies. Assembles and analyzes discharge and transfer resident and patient records for deficiencies and obtains completions from responsible persons within required period after discharge of resident or patient. Assists staff in release of information from medical records to outside requests and subpoena, consistent with policy. Prepares and maintains all medical records and documentation according to policy. Responsible for appropriate medical record storage and destruction of records consistent with policy to facilitate retrieval and prevent loss and destruction. Maintains strict confidentiality of resident and patient information.
Ideal candidate has working knowledge of medical terminology; including procedures and medications, computer office software and system set-up, data entry, data retrieval, and data storage, and most current International Classifications of Diseases-Clinical Modifications coding and disease specifications. High school diploma and degree in Health Information Technology or related field is required. One year experience with most current International Classifications of Diseases-Clinical Modifications coding and two years’ experience in a medical office or long term care setting required. Previous supervisory experience, intermediate computer skills, and ability to function with minimal supervision needed. Must be detail-oriented and have organizational skills.

High school diploma and degree in Health Information Technology or related field is required.
