Fireworks and Fanfare
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your association president in 2020-21. Our 2020-21 SCHIMA Board stepped into their roles on July 1st and we are already taking care of SCHIMA business. Respecting social distancing guidelines, the incoming and outgoing boards did not meet face-to-face in June for the final 2019-20 SCHIMA Board meeting or the 2020-21 SCHIMA Board Orientation and Training. We did meet virtually and encouraged transition of duties to occur during the end of June and early July. Speaking of transitions, we are now busy developing our strategic plan and pivoting to plan for at least three quarters of a virtual year of outreach through February or March of 2021. We also think you will find our education offerings stimulating and timely for 2020 and beyond.
Briefly, I will outline a few major efforts to watch for over the coming months. We are building on the 2019-20 Board and Dan’s leadership and will explore opportunities and new challenges for us as we continue to deal with a pandemic. SCHIMA is continuing to establish new relationships with other associations with similar goals in South Carolina. Please watch for updates in the future. As we begin strategic planning this month, we will focus on what engages our members, grows future leaders for SCHIMA and helps every SCHIMA member excel in their current job or for that future position.
Finally, keep your fingers crossed that we can not only meet together with SCHIMA members but also with NC, GA and VA members and really celebrate at our QUAD21 Conference planned for May 2-5, 2021, at the Myrtle Beach Hilton Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Wishing you a very happy 4th of July and we are looking forward to a year of fanfare whether virtual or face-to-face.
Amanda Cooper, SCHIMA President
